The Citrus Heights Police Department announced it has launched a new AI-powered online service that allows residents to report non-emergency crimes, suspicious activity, and crime tips at any time of day.
The program, called “OneReport,” is being introduced as part of a grant-funded technology pilot designed to make crime reporting “timelier and more accessible,” the Police Department shared in a press release. The ability for residents to report non-emergency crimes online will better allow dispatch to handle emergency calls during peak, high volume times.
“The program gives residents an interactive reporting experience that gathers investigative details while reducing the need to wait for an officer to respond in person,” the department said. The service gathers information by guiding users through a series of questions based on the type of incident being reported.
“Because it is interactive, it may ask follow-up questions to help ensure important details are included before the report is submitted,” authorities said, adding that each report will also be reviewed by human personnel from the Police Department and then entered into the department’s record-keeping system. This allows information to be accessed by officers, crime analysts, and investigators who can then evaluate the incident, identify possible crime patterns, and determine whether additional follow-up is needed to solve the crime.
“OneReport gives residents another convenient way to connect with their Police Department and report non-emergency incidents when it works best for them,” Police Chief Alex Turcotte said in the department press release. “It also helps us collect useful information while keeping officers and dispatchers available for calls that require a more immediate response.”
The program describes itself as AI-powered, and emphasizes that residents’ reports are quick, and secure, and created with AI-assistance. Residents can also file reports in multiple languages, including Spanish, French, Dutch, German, several middle eastern and Asian languages, and more.
Users can create an account in order to submit a crime tip, or report a concern. Creating an account will allow users to view past reports filed.
