After initially postponing the first weekend of a locally produced political comedy due to a COVID outbreak, organizers with Theatre in the Heights announced Friday that the show has been cancelled entirely.
“With great sadness, we are forced to cancel the entire production of Strange Bedfellows,” the theatre said in an Aug. 5 email update, apologizing to fans. The theatre said all tickets would be refunded.
The performance of Strange Bedfellows was initially slated to begin July 29 and continue through August 21, but those plans were halted after what the theatre described as a “COVID outbreak amongst the cast & crew.” The show’s script was written by Bill Rowland, who is a resident of Citrus Heights.

Set a few weeks before a presidential election, the production was set to follow members of the press looking for a scandal and political candidates seeking election, the theatre’s website said. The play promised a “happy, romantic, and patriotic resolution to the story with lots of great music and silliness along the way.”
Moving forward, Theatre in the Heights announced its team is “currently working on a small festival of new 10-minute plays by local playwrights to replace the last two weekends” of what would have been performances of Strange Bedfellow. The theatre’s Aug. 5 email told fans to “stay tuned” for more information.
