A new drive-thru coffee shop has opened on Auburn Boulevard at Grand Oaks Boulevard in Citrus Heights.

The Dutch Bros Coffee drive-thru located in the same parking lot as Fireside Lanes opened on Monday, March 2. Staff celebrated the grand opening with music, red, black, and white balloon columns, and black and white checkered additions on their uniforms, which they said paid homage to the previous Rally’s that existed before Dutch Bros took over and repainted the building navy blue.

The location features two drive-thru lanes, a walk-up window for ordering, and patio tables for customers, which have been painted dark blue but still feature a checkered pattern on top.

Dutch Bros owner Steve Grubbs was on site for the grand opening, celebrating with staff. Grubbs, who owns seven Dutch Bros locations and is planning on opening more in the region, said every Dutch Bros celebrates its grand openings with a theme.

This newest location has been dubbed the “Fireside” location because it resides in the same parking lot as Steve Cook’s Fireside Lanes. Inside, the coffee kiosk’s walls have black and white checkered wallpaper and a bright, neon orange “Fireside” sign.

The black and white checkered theme should continue to remain the shop’s theme, Grubbs said.

Staff said that the opening had been announced on their social media channels and that business had been good throughout the morning.

Grubbs said the city of Citrus Heights was “great to work with” and called the city “pro-business.” He relayed that getting permits for the remodel was easier in Citrus Heights than in Sacramento County. For the Auburn Boulevard coffee shop location, he received permits within six months and added that he has had to wait years for permits to be approved for at least two other future Dutch Bros locations.

The coffee shop’s menu for the Auburn Boulevard location includes regular coffee classics, rebel energy drinks, and protein coffees. According to the company’s website, online ordering is also available at this location.

The site was formerly home to Rally’s Burgers, which also served food and drinks in a drive-thru format and closed in the beginning of January 2025 without warning. At the time, the lot was listed for sale on commercial real estate site LoopNet for $1.6 million after initially being listed for sale in early 2024 with an asking price of $2 million, according to the real estate agent at the time.

The parcel, located on the corner, was vacant for many years and housed a Christmas tree lot in years gone by. Once an eyesore, the lot received significant improvements in curb appeal when Rally’s opened in October 2021.

The new Dutch Bros. is located at 7911 Auburn Blvd. and is the third location for the coffee chain in Citrus Heights. Store hours for the new location are listed as 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
