Blood Drive to be held at Citrus Heights City Hall

By Sara Beth Williams–
The City of Citrus Heights is hosting a blood drive in partnership with Vitalant to help collect blood for those in need, including Councilmember Tim Schaefer, who is fighting cancer.

The community blood drive event is scheduled for Friday, May 15, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Citrus Heights City Hall, located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive.

Schaefer announced during a City Council meeting that while fighting cancer, he has had difficulty with blood transfusions because he has a rare blood type that is difficult to acquire.

Schaefer encouraged everyone to take time to give blood, not just for him, but for everyone who will need blood at some point in time.

Those who want to give blood can schedule an appointment in advance through Vitalant or by calling the organization directly. Walk-ins may be accommodated as space allows, but appointments help reduce wait times. More details are available on the city’s calendar of events.

According to event organizers, donors should bring a valid photo ID, eat a healthy meal prior to donating, and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

As an added incentive, those who donate will be entered into a Vitalant drawing for a chance to win a $10,000 gift card.
