July Events: What’s going on in Citrus Heights?

July brings a full calendar of events to Citrus Heights: from a community food drive and Art at City Hall to a veterans’ community barbecue, ice cream social, game nights, magic show and an e-bike rider training course, there’s something for residents of all ages throughout the month.

Independence from Hunger food drive: Grocery Outlet’s 16th annual Independence from Hunger food drive is currently underway and will run through July 31. Donate at least $5 in-store or online to get a $5 coupon for a future purchase. 100% of donations stay local.

There are two Grocery Outlets in Citrus Heights.
  • North Citrus Heights: 6059 Greenback Ln. (at Auburn Blvd.)
  • South Citrus Heights: 5409 Sunrise Blvd. (at Madison Ave.)

Art at City Hall: Citrus Heights Arts in partnership with the City of Citrus Heights is hosting its second annual Art at City Hall event on Wednesday, July 9, showcasing artwork from local artists inside the corridors of City Hall. The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and -offers residents an opportunity to view a variety of works while meeting members of the local arts community. Veterans Community Center 250 USA Celebration BBQ: The Veterans Community Center will host its 250 USA Celebration BBQ on Friday, July 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with food, community fellowship, and activities honoring veterans and the nation’s history.

Ice cream social: The city’s second City Scoop ice cream social of the summer will take place on July 15 at Sylvan Middle School. The event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and feature free ice cream, community gathering, and backyard games and activities.

Live Music, Open Mic and Karaoke:

Sweet Music Studio Café continues to host live music performances throughout the summer, offering local musicians an opportunity to perform while guests enjoy coffee, food, and an evening of entertainment. The cafe also hosts weekly Open Mic nights on Thursdays beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sign-ins fill up quickly, guests are encouraged to arrive early.

DarkHeart Brewing on Auburn Boulevard and Old Auburn Road hosts live music, karaoke nights, and trivia nights throughout the summer. Follow the brewery on social media to find out what live musical acts are performing on the weekends. Karaoke is held once a month.

Game nights and Trivia nights:

DarkHeart Brewing hosts game and trivia nights weekly.  Every Wednesday until 9 p.m. the brewery hosts a game night. Bring your own or select from their own catalog of games.

Every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. the brewery hosts a Trivia night. Topics are posted on the brewery’s Instagram page. Guests are encouraged to come early as seating inside is limited. DarkHeart Brewery is located at 7110 Auburn Blvd.

Galaxy Game Cafe hosts social open play game nights, Settlers of Catan game nights, Dungeons and Dragons game nights, Mystery game nights and other meetups on a weekly and monthly basis. “Crafternoon” Craft and Sip: Two crafters are hosting a crafting and sip event at R Vita Cantina on Sunrise Boulevard on July 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. No experience or talent is necessary, organizers say, and supplies will be provided. Guests can choose from several different projects (while supplies last). Pre-registration is needed for seating and supplies. Some personalized options are also available. The theme is “a ‘Lil Bit of Christmas.”

E-bike Rider Training Course: The Citrus Heights Police Department, in partnership with the San Juan Unified School District, will host a free e-bike rider training course on Saturday, July 25 at Mesa Verde High School. The program is designed to teach young riders safe riding practices, traffic laws, and proper operation of electric bicycles. There will be two three-hour sessions available. A helmet and at least one parent/guardian is required to attend with any minors who bring e-bikes to the event. For more information visit the event page here. Mesa Verde High School is located at 7501 Carriage Drive.

Single Mom Strong Backpack Distribution: Local nonprofit Single Mom Strong will host its annual backpack and school supplies distribution on Saturday, July 26, helping local students prepare for the upcoming school year. Families who qualify will receive backpacks filled with school supplies while available.

The distribution of supplies is free to children of single moms and is planned to take place from 11: 30 to 1 p.m. at The Empowerment Center. Registration is required. Register Here

Amazing Magic Show: Families can enjoy an Amazing Magic Show on Saturday, July 26, at the Sylvan Oaks Library. The free performance is geared toward children and families as part of the library’s summer programming. The event is scheduled from 12 to 1 p.m.

Lunch at the Library: Sylvan Oaks Library is hosting a free Lunch at the Library program throughout the summer, providing free lunches for students up to age 18. Registration is not required. Lunch is served between 12-1 p.m. and must be eaten inside the community room. Visit the library’s info page for more information.
