The annual Battle of the Bands and BBQ, hosted by American Legion Post 637, is set to return for its ninth year. The annual fundraising event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Historic Rusch Home and Gardens. Gates will open at 12:30 p.m.
Tickets are $40 and include all you can eat barbeque plus sides, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and desserts. American Legion Post 637 Commander Charles Stone reports there are at least 5 different barbeque vendors planned, as well as three different bands performing during this year’s event.
Attendees will also have the chance to cast votes for their favorite dishes and performances. Band performances will be at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. The event will also feature kids’ activities and raffle baskets.
The event is one of the American Legion post’s annual fundraisers which helps raises money to provide assistance to veterans in the area.
The Battle of the Bands and BBQ was originally created as a fundraiser to assist veterans and has since grown into a local tradition. Proceeds benefit the “Vets Helping Vets” program, which has provided direct assistance to dozens of veterans over the years.

American Legion Post 637, the host of the event, is a service organization committed to supporting veterans from World War II to the present day, providing resources, activities, and assistance to those who served.
