Citrus Heights Police: Suspect hospitalized following officer-involved shooting

By Sara Beth Williams–
Citrus Heights Police officers were on scene during an officer-involved shooting in which at least one officer fired their weapon at a suspect in Sacramento County Thursday.

In a press release, The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office confirmed it is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place on Fulton Avenue near Michelle Drive. The Citrus Heights Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and Sheriff’s Office deputies were on scene at the time of the incident, which occurred midday. It is not yet known whether any Citrus Heights Police officer discharged their weapon.

It is also still unclear what led to the officer-involved shooting. Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Eric Dias said Thursday afternoon that the Police Department is expected to release more information in an official press release later on in the day.

The suspect has been transported to a local area hospital for further treatment, and their identity and condition have not yet been released.

At the time of the press release, just after 1 p.m., northbound Fulton Avenue was closed at Echo Way, and southbound Fulton Avenue was closed at Edison Avenue. Officials warned drivers to expect significant traffic impacts and delays. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
