Latest letters from Sentinel readers comment on a new sales tax proposal that would bring light rail to Citrus Heights and fund other transportation projects.
Citrus Heights doesn’t need light rail
[RE: Citrus Heights would get light rail under county sales tax proposal; March 3rd] Citrus Heights does not want nor need this. Ask Folsom, especially around the outlets, what it’s done to the city. Longer commute times, and more problems. It doesn’t lessen the traffic it just moves it down the corridor onto another already over-packed exit. With light rail also brings more homeless, if you don’t believe me look at the light rail station at Watt and 80. And what commute are they saving? It’s only four miles down I-80 anyway to take the light rail: if people aren’t willing to go four miles, what makes you think building out to here will change their mind.

Why light rail?
Why not just have a bus drop off the light rail riders at the Longview exit, where it ends now? We sure don’t need to pay anymore tax on every dollar we spend, to have people come into Citrus Heights, riding light rail for free, who have nothing good on their minds. There’s already enough of those people here! They need to extend light rail to the airport and make it safer to ride.

From Facebook:
Karen B. — We voted this down once already. Couldn’t get it passed that way so decided to change the rules and try again? Whoever brought this bright idea up again, should be ashamed of themselves. CH is a bedroom community, not downtown. If folks want to use public transportation they have numerous opportunities already.
