September brings a variety of community events, fundraisers, workshops, meetings and activities to Citrus Heights, ranging from a 9/11 memorial service and local candidate forum to Citrus Nights, community yard sales, a book sale and business networking events. Here are some of the events planned throughout the month.
Yard Sales:
Marching Band yard sale: The Citrus Heights Community Marching Band will hold its annual fall fundraiser yard sale over Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-7, and through the next weekend, Sept. 11-13.
The massive yard sale will be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. The fundraiser will be held at 7620 Linden Ave. Proceeds go toward supporting future band activities and there will also be a donation plate seeking funds for the future Kathy Cook Memorial Amphitheater, to be constructed at Rusch Park.

Veterans Center yard sale: The Citrus Heights Veterans Community Center will hold a community yard sale Sept. 18-19. Donations are welcome. Pay-what-you-can yard sale: Local business All American Junk Removal & Demo will host a public Pay-What-You-Can Community Yard Sale Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 5940 Rosebud Lane in Sacramento. The sale will feature reusable household goods recovered through the company’s work, with 100% of proceeds benefiting W.I.S.H. Charity Inc., which supports seniors, veterans and people facing life-limiting illness and end-of-life needs across Northern California.

Friends of the Library book sale: The Friends of the Library will hold a book sale Saturday, Sept. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sylvan Oaks Library. Shoppers can purchase gently used and donated books, DVDs, magazines and other materials at discounted prices, with proceeds supporting library programming and materials. 9/11 memorial service: Sylvan Cemetery will hold its annual 9/11 memorial service Friday, Sept. 11, from 8:15 to 8:45 a.m. at the cemetery’s gazebo. The service will honor those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and will include a time of reflection and music. Compost workshop and giveaway: Republic Services will host a Citrus Heights “Kitchen Pail and Compost Giveaway” event Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at Citrus Heights City Hall, at 6360 Fountain Square Drive. Residents should bring their ID or utility bill to verify residency. Compost is self-serve, and residents should bring shovels and containers.
Additionally, a fall composting workshop is scheduled for Sept. 26 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Sylvan Ranch Community Garden, located at 7450 Stock Ranch Rd.

Community gatherings:
American Legion Battle of the Bands and BBQs: American Legion Post 637 will host its Battle of the Bands and BBQs event Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rusch House in Rusch Park. The event will feature live music, multiple barbeque vendors, and activities while supporting local veterans. Tickets cover lunch and unlimited drinks. The Rusch Home is located at 7301 Antelope Rd. Blood drive: Vitalant will host a blood drive Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Citrus Heights City Hall. Citrus Nights: The City of Citrus Heights will host its second Citrus Nights event of the year Friday, Sept. 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Van Maren Park. The free community event will feature live music, food trucks and a Beer and Wine Garden presented by the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce. Local Makers vendor fair: Sweet Music Studio Cafe will host a Local Makers Market vendor fair Sunday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The market will feature local vendors, artists and crafters, with handmade goods, original art, crochet, handmade jewelry, plants and more. Music will also be part of the event. Visitors should be prepared to pay makers directly. Informational meetings and workshops
Citrus Heights City Council Candidate forum: The Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce in partnership with The Sentinel will host a candidate forum Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Royal Stage Theater at Sunrise Mall. The forum will provide an opportunity for residents to hear from Citrus Heights City Council candidates ahead of the November election.

Business Watch info meetings: The Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce will hold two informational meetings about a new Citrus Heights Business Watch program, Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 2 to 3 p.m., and Thursday, Sept. 17, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Citrus Heights Event Center, located at 6300 Fountain Square Drive.
The program is intended to connect local businesses with the Chamber, city and Citrus Heights Police Department to improve communication, awareness and collaboration. A virtual option is also available. For more information and to register, visit the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce event page.
Community Care Hub: San Juan Unified School District will host its next Community Care Hub Thursday, Sept. 24, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at Sylvan Middle School. While supplies last, families can access food boxes, free diapers, learning tools, clothing and other resources, as well as information from community organizations and school district departments. Low vision community group: The Low Vision Group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Sylvan Oaks Library.
