Citrus Heights police officers and personnel are participating in a new “America Strong and United” campaign to recognize the role of first responders and essential workers in keeping communities safe and functioning through the COVID-19 crisis.
The local department is joining the California Police Chiefs Association in wearing a new red, white, and blue band across their badge, according to a news release issued Tuesday. Police have worn black bands over their badges in previous years, to mourn the deaths of a first responder and honor their sacrifice.
“The America Strong campaign recognizes essential workers who put their health and the health of their family members at risk and are working tirelessly, not just in our community, but communities across the country,” police said in Tuesday’s press statement. The department seeks to inspire hope and unity through the badges.
The campaign includes recognition of firefighters, nurses, paramedics, EMT’s, doctors, as well as all essential workers. Medical personnel, first responders, and others who have lost their lives or are suffering due to the outbreak are also acknowledged.
KUSI-San Diego reported this week that all law enforcement in San Diego County will be participating in the America Strong and United campaign as well.
