An apartment fire near Sunrise Mall on Wednesday left one unit destroyed and two additional units affected by smoke and water damage.
The incident began in a second floor unit at the Legacy Park apartments at 8079 Sunrise East Way on Wednesday night.
Battalion Chief Chris Reed said no one was seriously injured in the incident. One boy suffered smoke inhalation but was treated at the scene and released. His brother suffered an injury to his hand, Reed said.
The cause of fire was not immediately known. Two dogs reportedly died, and a total of 12 tenants were displaced, according to KCRA.
Several Metro Fire units responded to the incident with Citrus Heights police providing traffic control. Sunrise East Way was shut down between Fair Oaks Boulevard and Sunrise Vista Drive during the incident.
Reed said the two boys lived in the unit with their parents. The family lost everything in the blaze, he said.
